1984 use to be a thing of fiction. A society where our every move was monitored.  2012 is becoming 1984 in reality.

After reading Google’s new privacy policy I became concerned. What I saw in this privacy policy was an oxymoron. There certainly was NO privacy in this at all.

Now your life was to become an open book for all to see, for big business and the government to exploit.

That is why I have joined in this petition to fight Google’s new “privacy policy.” I hope you will read the petition, sign it and share it with your friends.

WE MUST DO THIS NOW WHILE WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE!

Growing up I remember Smokey the Bear, the iconic figure used by the Forestry Dept with the motto “Only you can prevent forest fires.”

The campaign was successful, the number of fires went way down. The forest grew tall without having to deal with those nasty fires.

All was well until the inevitable fire finally occurred. It burned with ferocious intensity causing much severe destruction of the forest. More fires occurred, with the same devastating effect. The foresters were stunned. What happened? Why were the fires so much more destructive?

What they learned was they had been too successful, that the forest needed the fires. The early fires were small, and cleaned out the underbrush on the forest floor. It got rid of the weak and stifling vegetation making room for new growth.

But, when the underbrush was allowed to accumulate, it built up more fuel for the fires, allowing them to burn hotter and higher. The foresters had unwittingly created a greater enemy for the very forest they were trying to save.

The lesson was that the little fires, the little adversities, that the forest experienced before made them stronger.

Man is the same way. By facing adversities, it allows him to grow and become stronger. Like with the forest, lack of adversity (fire) creates a false since of security leaving him unprepared and  incapable of handling the even greater challenges that will come.

While facing adversity is unpleasant and difficult, it is a vital element to growth. It allows you to clear out your underbrush so you can grow taller and stronger. When adversity comes, welcome it, master it. You will be all the stronger for it.

2009 looks to be a bleak year for job holders, particularly for those serving consumers.  About 3 million people have already lost their jobs.  This month we have already seen 50,000 more cuts announced.  That trend is expected to continue for several months.  The prospects for finding a new job are growing very slim.

With such a bleak financial forecast for the months ahead, is now the time to even think about becoming an entrepreneur?  The answer is yes.

In these times you need to take personal charge of your future.  When you work for someone else, as millions have recently found out, you do not have a lot of say about your work prospects.

Even though your job may be at risk or may have disappeared, your most important assets have not.  Those assets are your experience, talent and intelligence.  Now it is up to you to put them to work in a new environment that you control.

In every adversity there is a seed of equal or greater benefit.  So while a door may have been shut on you, another door has been unlocked.  You just need to find out which door that is.
