2009 looks to be a bleak year for job holders, particularly for those serving consumers.  About 3 million people have already lost their jobs.  This month we have already seen 50,000 more cuts announced.  That trend is expected to continue for several months.  The prospects for finding a new job are growing very slim.

With such a bleak financial forecast for the months ahead, is now the time to even think about becoming an entrepreneur?  The answer is yes.

In these times you need to take personal charge of your future.  When you work for someone else, as millions have recently found out, you do not have a lot of say about your work prospects.

Even though your job may be at risk or may have disappeared, your most important assets have not.  Those assets are your experience, talent and intelligence.  Now it is up to you to put them to work in a new environment that you control.

In every adversity there is a seed of equal or greater benefit.  So while a door may have been shut on you, another door has been unlocked.  You just need to find out which door that is.

Take inventory, determine what your assets are, where your strengths lie and what your passions are.   Look at your network.  Who do you know?

Now put your thinking cap on and start looking at possibilities.  Do not be afraid to think out of the box, it is the time to open your mind to possibilities. Start doing research, read books, magazines, surf the web.  Look for ways to turn your passions into a business.  Look for ways to turn your dreams into reality.
